This image is posted on the front page of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's website. It's a poster from a campaign to address Germany's plummeting birthrate by making Kraut society more baby friendly and is the topic of this week's regular podcast by Merkel. Could you imagine the American government ever using such a stylistically provocative image in a public service announcement? I mean, we get ads on how obesity in black children is no laughing matter featuring some anonymous woman who is supposed to be a nurse or something and the Germans get an image with enough gravitas to spur at least an hour of Eurodebate on art in the age of mechanical reproduction ala Benjamin. What the hell?
