Benazir Bhutto, Assasinated
Gee, didn't see that one coming...
ADDENDUM: Huh. Turns out Bhutto wasn't technically assassinated after all. Seems she smashed her head open on the sunroof lever thinger while ducking assassins bullets but no actual bullet wounds were found on her person. So then, does this actually count as an assassination? Huntington Van der Dot Com would have us believe that it IS an assassination because an assassination attempt was the proximate cause of her death. It certainly appears to satisfy the "but for" test for proximate cause - but for the assassination attempt on Bhutto's life, she would not have smashed her head in on her sunroof lever thinger, thus dying. So, does this make this the world's first assassination by proximate cause? Discuss.

Yeah, big surprise.
I hear Iran might get nukes someday . . . never mind the lunatics who already have them.

You could seek to understand the dynamics behind the morass that is Pakistan instead of blithely dismissing that which is too complicated for your brain to process.

Shane, I more than adequately understand the dynamics behind the stage on which this incident unfolded and I surely have a greater knowledge of South Asian politics than you do. However, since you seem to consider yourself some kind of expert on Pakistani politics, I'm sure you won't mind entertaining us all with a brief 500 word essay on the challenges faced by Pakistan. Oh, and don't attempt to point out that silly missive you have posted on your own blog. What did you originally write that for? Your SAT?

You're right, AYM; this was pretty inevitable. She knew it, too, which makes the fact that she came out of exile anyway pretty admirable. While la Bhutto was no saint, she could've played an integral part in bringing something resembling stability to the region. Maybe it really will be a martyrdom that will lead the Pakistanis to something better, but probably it's just another stupid waste of political talent.
There's a charming op-ed column in today's Comical: "We South Asians Like Our Leaders Dead." Lovely.

Great. THIS will my legal analytical legacy. I don’t know if they even have proximate cause in Pakistan. Prob'ly did away with it because there's a conflict with Shariah.

There's also an earlier post over there from when her murder was first announced, with copious comments including several by moi.
