Young Folks Cover

Holy shit. It's Nena of 99 Luftballoons fame and some Kung Fu Foucault looking motherfucker doing an all German cover of Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks." She looks good, especially considering the fact she's like 117 years old now...

You know my devotion to all things 80s is unequaled, but this is just wrong. It looks like Nena's artistic vision froze in 1991. I've loved this tune for over a year, but this goes a long way toward ending the party. Thanks, old, burnt out German popstars for harshing my Swedeophilic buzz!

Gotta disagree. This is such a brilliant song, even Nena can't destroy it.

Yes the Swedes and charming and clever and we love them but c'mon.. this remake shows a very special talent of pushing everything into an odd and uncomfortable realm that is purely German. I may not like the remake but I am nonetheless fascinated.

Interestingly enough, the German lyrics are not a translation of the original Swedish style English. Nena and Kung Fu Foucault cooked up entirely new lyrics and just cannibalized the tune.

She pretty much resembles 72% of urban German women between the ages of 19 and 56 (the other 28% of urban German women have different haircolor or hairstyle).

I kind of liked that Peter+Björn+John song the first 239 times I heard it, but I passed that milestone long about last February thanks to KCRW. Now I just want to smack that whistler upside the head with a two-by-four every time I'm unfortunate enough to hear it.

This remake has reinvigorated my interest in this song, however, so I fail to see what Fah Fah is whinging about. Are you sure this video was directed by Tom "Run-Lola-Run" Tykwer? That's one of the first things that came to mind when I saw it for some reason. Maybe it's just because Nena is dressed exactly like Lola (see paragraph 1, above).

When, in 38 hours, I am tired of even this remake, I should really check out the rest of PB&J's ouevre just in case I hop on that new Swedish-pop bandwagon. In that category, I think my heart still belongs to Dungen.

Oops, meant to say, are you sure this video WASN'T directed by Tom "Run-Lola-Run" Tykwer?

Ich Kann nix Dafür . . . same music, different lyrics. Can't they be sued for that?

Looks like it's the theme song for a movie, Vollidiot. I think that describes safety conscious soccer moms who who were duped by Ford to believe they're driving well built Swedish cars, but instead are driving Mexican assembled American clunkers.

117!?! She's my age, and I can assure you I'm only 98.

Well AS a german woman, a bit younger than NENA, i was surprised that I have never heard this gruesome version before. Shows what sort of impact this must have made in Germany.
Some of you US 80ies afficionados might actually know the Kung Fu Foucault (lol). He was the singer of "Trio" who did "Da Da Da" back in the day. He is still producing stuff, as is NENA who is still going strong. after some personal drama (dead babies) she had a real comeback a few years ago. She is even liked by young girls who go to see her gigs together with their parents (shudder)
I never liked her very much, she was always too "rock" for me.

I have to admit that i am a bit intrigued what somebody here meant with: " an odd and uncomfortable realm that is purely German".
Can you explain? I would love to use it for myself ;)
